Jeju-do Day 4: Rain

Good morning sunshine.

(I stole this photo from Sol)

Good bye Udo.
Hello rain.

Jeju is famous for its black pigs.
They are special because ...
.... well ....

I don't think that happens so much anymore,
but this place had an area to the side where you could to your business if you liked
and the pig would come eat it.

We gave him our apple core,
I think he preferred it to poop.

We are heartless bastards.
After looking at cute little pigs, we went and ate one.
It was delicious.

Once our bellies were full we drove along to Manjanggul lava-tube cave.
It was big, cold, and amazing.

This special rock is suppose to look like a turtle, but all I could see was a frozen  Han Solo.

... then we conquered the maze just in time to beat the rain.

Jeju-do Day 3 - Sweat

Only one tourist in shot.
Impressive.

You really can't take me anywhere.

After leaving Seogwipo and all its waterfalls we headed along the coast until we found
some lunch ... oh how quickly we forgot about our little sea friends ... but they
were just too delicious.

It was the hottest, sunniest day we'd seen in Jeju,
why not climb a up and see a giant old crater?

Sol does this really adorable thing where he carries things in his mouth from time to time.
It always makes me smile.

I'm not kidding.
This thing was big.
I could have climbed it 5 times though, you know, if I had really wanted to.

Then we watched the old lady divers, the Haenyo, do their thing.
These beautiful little old ladies free dive down up to 20m
and grab whatever they see to sell to you so you can fill your belly.
They are awesome.

After we left the ladies we drove Bob onto a boat and we all headed over to Udo Island.

Where the most badass Haenyo live.
These old ladies may no longer dive, but they go with their walkers up to the
shore and then walk along the rocks scrounging up little creatures and plants.

Udo was beautiful.

Jeju-do Day 2: The Park

On day 2 we picked up a new friend.
Bob.

... and headed out to see "The Park".
It was interesting.

After we had seen enough of this, and sexy that,
we ran back to Bob and visited a Green Tea farm.

Same Same Family!

Next we took Bob for a spin around the East coast of the island.
We made a few new little friends ...

For dinner we decided to stay away from out new sea friends.
We opted for ribs ....

... and Jeju's harshest ...
.... followed by ....

... because the boy can sing.

Jeju-do Day 1: Where is the Car?

Before I left Korea I had just enough time to go on one last trip.
I really only had one option,  Jeju-do.
If you've never heard of it, that's ok. It's a Korean thing.

When I transferred money home the other week the lady at the bank asked what I was doing with my summer vacation.

"I'm going to Jeju-do."
"Really? You know it's cheaper to go to another country? Only Koreans go there."
"Yes, but I'm curious."

money talk - money talk - money talk

"Are you going to Jeju-do with friends?"
"Well, I'm going with a boy."
"Oh! Did you know that when Korean couples go there, it's for their honeymoon?"
"I heard that. My boyfriend is Korean."

Looks me up and down.

"Really? (slightly snarky) "I  wish I had a nice Korean boyfriend to take me to Jeju-do."

DAY 1

"We're going to Jeju-do".
Wait! Where is the car?

The car got towed.

In Canada that would involve an expensive taxi to the middle of nowhere and then a hefty fee to get it back. In Korea? The cab costs less than $5, the lot was conveniently located, and it was only about $30 to get the car back, which works out to about how much you would pay to park your car in Toronto overnight.

Good bye Busan.

I've never seen clouds like the ones we saw on our flight over.
So dramatic. So beautiful.

Snacks!

We walked over the cutest bridge .
It's covered in locks with little love letters written all over them.

"Honey, I will do my best for you,
and trust and love you forever and ever.
I will keep my promise.
I love you so much ♥"

and then it rained, and rained, and rained, and rained .....

Mr.Korea

You know how sometimes the universe has a wonderful way
of opening up and giving you exactly what you want, exactly when you need it?

Say hi to Sol.

Isn't he pretty?
